چکیده

We report a replica molding process for simultaneously forming a three dimensional metal pattern on the surface of molded polymer microstructures. This technique uses noncovalent surface forces to guide the transfer of thin metal films from the three dimensional features of high aspect ratio poly dimethylsiloxane micromolds to polymeric replicates. The utility of this technique has been demonstrated by the fabrication of organic coplanar waveguides integrated with vertical Ka-band monopole antenna radiators. These microwave systems show good performance with over 18% bandwidth and greater than 16 dB return loss, demonstrating the versatility of this process. © 2009 American Institute of Physics. 3-d Patterned Microstructures Using Inclined Uv Exposure and Metal Transfer Micromolding

We report a fabrication approach for three-dimensional (3-D) microstructures having functional metal patterns by using inclined UV lithography and 3-D metal transfer micromolding. Inclined rotational UV exposure using SU-8 has been exploited to simultaneously generate gradually varying 3-D structures with different heights in a single mask. For 3-D metal patterning, a metal transfer micromoldin...

Three-Dimensional Metallic Microstructures Fabricated by Soft Lithography and Microelectrodeposition

Soft lithography offers a convenient set of methods for the transfer of patterns to planar and nonplanar substrates. Microelectrodeposition can transform thin metal patterns into self-supporting microstructures, weld components together, and strengthen microstructures after deformations. Together, soft lithography and electrochemistry provide synergistic technologies and the basis for a strateg...

On pattern transfer in replica molding.

Nano- and micromolding of elastic materials produces smoothed replicas of the mold structures. This limits the technique's resolution. Here we identified surface tension as the cause of smoothing and derived explicit equations for calculating molded feature shapes. The characteristic length scale for smoothing is given by the ratio of the interface tension to Young's modulus of the molded mater...

Three-dimensional Numerical Simulation of Metal Flow and Solidification in the Multi-cavity Casting Moulds of Automotive Components

The liquid metal flow and the solidification behaviours in a multi-cavity casting mould of two automotive cast parts were simulated in three dimensions. The commercial code, FLOW-3D® was used because it can track the front of the molten metal by a Volume of Fluid (VOF) method and allows complicated parts to be modeled by the Fractional Area/Volume Obstacle Representation (FAVOR) meth...

Molding of three-dimensional microstructures of gels.

This Communication describes the use of patterned elastomeric stamps to mold, release, and stack hydrogels into three-dimensional microstructures. Molding of gels against stamps derivatized by a hexa(ethylene glycol)-terminated self-assembled monolayer or by an adsorbed monolayer of bovine serum albumin allowed the application of several soft lithographic techniques (replica molding, microtrans...
